Once you’ve passed your test, you can go on to Pass Plus which will help you become a better driver and get a discount on your insurance.
Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years of passing their test than at any other time in their driving career.
Age doesn’t matter – it’s basically down to a lack of driving experience.
Young new drivers are especially vulnerable. They hold only 10% of licences, but they are involved in 20% of road accidents in which someone is injured.
Pass Plus gives you valuable extra experience and positive driving skills that would otherwise take a long time to acquire. This will help you to become a safer and better driver.
You must take Pass Plus within your first year of passing the practical driving test. The certificate is then valid for two years.
When you get your full driving licence, you can book for a course of six specially designed training sessions.
These include:
- In town
- Out of town
- In all weathers
- At night
- On dual carriage ways
- On motorways
When you’ve covered all the modules and your performance is satisfactory, you will receive a certificate from the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). This certificate could earn you a substantial discount on your insurance premium from one of the companies who support the scheme.
See the Pass Plus pages of the Gov.uk site for more information.
